Led by professional Ballerina and Royal Ballet trained Joanne Evans
The Reigate School of Ballet and Commercial Dance specialises in ballet classes for children throughout Reigate, Redhill and Merstham. We also have children attending from further afield such as Caterham, Horley, Banstead and even Woking. The school recognises that ballet is the core of technique for other styles of dance, and a great deal of our pupils take multiple disciplines.
Our teachers are the pick of the crop in this area:
-
2 teachers trained at the prestigious Royal Ballet School
-
1 teacher is a highly qualified ballet examiner
-
all teachers have extensive ballet training and full I.S.T.D. and/or R.A.D. qualifications, 3 with high Licentiate (L.I.S.T.D.) qualifications
Despite our strengths, we know that teaching children has to maintain a fun and friendly atmosphere, and we have been inspiring children to dance through the fundamentals of ballet for more than 55 years. Our reputation and experience for highly skilled dance and ballet teaching is renowned in the area, with much experience in teaching early years to Intermediate and Advanced levels. We often welcome older children from other schools every year, who wish to fine tune their ballet, and the wealth of extra classes we offer (including our FREE scholarship classes) means we have the choice and the breadth available to all pupils to develop as a dancer and as a person.
Ballet is a key dance form, which strenghens a dancer's physique while offering grace and elegance to the dancer. It influences most other dance forms (even some streetdance - click here for our blog on Jookin), and is the best way to learn to dance from an early age.
Having trained at the Royal Ballet School and being an official ballet examiner with the I.S.T.D. dance board, Miss Evans and her team of teachers offer numerous classes throughout the week and weekends, for children of all ages and abilities. We want everyone to enjoy their ballet and the school is proud to have had such a longstanding
Ballet is taken by a large percentage of the dance school, whether children dance for a hobby, for fitness, co-ordination, balance, strength, posture or wanting to develop their technique further in a professional capacity. With Miss Evans' expertise as an examiner, I.S.T.D. examinations are offered. These are optional as we understand not all children wish to follow this route. Children move up to the next level regardless of whether they take exams or not, learning vital technique, knowledge and artistry skills. All our children are individual and special to us!
Pointework is taught at a later stage and most of our seniors opt to go on pointe. We have a wealth of experience in developing pointework amongst children, and we recognise when it becomes safe for children to develop this popular skill.
Our younger classes use mime to develop self-expression and imagination, leading to artistry and musicality which eventually leads to a natural sense of performance. Ballet should have a magical approach in the early years and our specialised dance teachers deliver an engaging, fun and proven programme from beginning to end.
As with all our dance classes, pupils can demonstrate their progression when we invite parents during our watching weeks. This is a great way to see your child’s development and chat to the teachers.
