The Reigate School of Ballet & Commercial Dance are building on the success of their established performing arts classes in Reigate, by expanding their senior Starlight section. The Saturday morning musical theatre classes will now have five exciting classes for all age groups from 5 to 16.
Following on from Star for a Night, we had a few pupils enquiring about mature musical theatre classes that target teenagers in Reigate and Redhill. Starlight's already senior group (Group 4), will now expand into 2 classes after half term, and the 3 hour course will involve:
1 hour of singing classes per week
1 hour of drama classes per week
1 hour of dance and movement
Our musical theatre classes believe that performing arts classes should be both challenging and enjoyable, and a large emphasis on acual 'performing', ensuring pupils enjoy being in front of an audience. Starlight pupils have enjoyed a bumper year and many have performed in no less than 18 public events, many of which have been in professional theatres like the Harlequin Redhill, Dorking Halls and London venues, as well as local events in Reigate and Redhill - Christmas Lights, Belfry's 25th Anniversary, many Priory Park events and of course performances in our own dance studios in Reigate in front of parents during watching weeks.
HOW WILL THE NEW COURSE DIFFER?
FIrstly, teenagers need more mature works to study in all performing aspects, and the course will focus much on developing the voice, projecting the voice, stage presence and how to perform as a soloist, and drama will focus on mature pieces in both dramatic and musical theatre works.
We plan to expand pupils' perception and repertoire in musical theatre - studying not just the popular blockbusters, but also the lesser known works, amny which will be unkown to the children.
TEACHING STAFF
Our teaching staff will consist of Lamda teachers, teachers who have taught at leading stage schools in London, Musical Directors and West End performers who will nurture and develop both the shy and the confident pupils in a supportive environment.
COST
Reigate School of Ballet & Commercial Dance do not believe performing arts classes warrant a huge price tag - quality teaching from industry professionals does not need to come at a cost!
Our 3 hour course for pupils in year 6 and upwards costs £95 per term.
WHAT AGES DO YOU COVER?
Starlight Musical Theatre caters for all ages from 5 - 16 in five age-specific classes on Saturdays, and one short course for 45 minutes on Thursdays. The younger ages have 2 hours per week on Saturdays, while our seniors receive 3 hours.
