The Reigate School of Ballet & Commercial Dance organised a recording session for four teenagers to sing an arrangement of One Night Only from the musical 'The Dreamgirls'. The girls, many of whom now attend Starlight Performing Arts Musical theatre course in Reigate, won the chance to record their song during their time at Star for a Night - a Reigate and Banstead Borough Council run activity. The Reigate School of Ballet organised and produced Star for a Night this year, and was a huge success, and the borough are extremely lucky to have this yearly activity (which offers young people the chance to samle and learn dance, singing and acting from industry professionals).
The girls recorded at Masterlink Production Studios in Send, Surrey under the direction of Gareth Jones (Musical Director at Reigate School of Ballet's Musical Theatre course). The excellent recording engineer was James Welch. James was extremely enthusiastic and professional in every sense, with an excellent pair of ears! The girls were really relaxed with the whole recording experience thanks to him, and the results show.
The four girls, aged between 14 and 16 years, were: Cara, Chloe, Katie and Paige. Between them they attend ST Bedes School in Redhill and Reigate School.
During Star for a Night rehearsals, these 4 girls proved they could sing in this style, and because all four of them had different vocal qualities, the blending of their voices in unison (as well as in harmony) proved to work really well. They showed great musicality and professionalism, not just in performance on stage (and in the studio), but also during rehearsals during the term at Star for a Night.
We wish them all the very best, and hope to see many more talented teenagers next year - auditions are in January 2018.
Star for a Night is run by Reiagte & Banstead Borough Council, which offers free dance and performing arts training by theatre professionals and musicians. for more information on SFAN, please visit STAR FOR A NIGHT.
